MADISON HEIGHTS, Va. – June 5, 2018 – Integrated Technology Group is kicking off their summer internship program by hiring on three interns, two of which are recent Appomattox High School graduates.

Mason Cash, 18, and Will Huffman, 18, are like most young adults this summer, with goals including getting a driver’s license as well as getting a car. Something that’s different about these two young men, however, is where they’re choosing to spend their summer: a technology business in Madison Heights.

Impressively, they both graduated high school with some technology certifications under their belts—Huffman with four and Cash with three, hoping to make that four after taking another certification exam. For both, technology as a passion or career path has been in the picture for a while. Huffman says it is was in ninth grade, when he had Jason Clark as an instructor, that he discovered his interest in technology. Cash explains that it has been since fifth grade that he has had an interest in computers, but only more recently has he been able to pursue it as a career path.

The tech world has a vast range of specialties, so one pursuing a career path in the technology industry typically pinpoints an area of focus. For Cash, it’s hardware and for Huffman, it’s any software or applications. When asked about their ultimate dream job, they said, “Ideally, something in the software development world,” Cash explains. Huffman joked, “I’m currently undecided, probably something dealing with IT; however, if I was offered a deal where I was paid to sleep, I wouldn’t turn it down.”

Among their favorite engineers and mentors, Cash and Huffman both named Jason Clark. Clark is a teacher at Appomattox High School, instructing courses on information technology and computer systems. “He always provided the tools we needed to learn well, and he showed great dedication to students,” they said. During their time at ITG this summer, Cash and Huffman will be doing some hands-on technical work through disassembling and assembling computers, they will be shadowing ITG engineers and they will also be mentored by ITG staff to give them experience with various technology specialties. ITG says they are excited to host and mentor these two young men and to see how they grow as they pursue technology as a career path.

Paul Meadows had this to say about Cash and Huffman: “For most of our ten-year history, we have offered paid internships to young people pursuing a career in technology; however, bringing on two recent high school graduates is a first at ITG.  These young men are exceptional and their dedication shown by achieving industry certifications while still in high school makes them very deserving of this opportunity.  We are happy to have them as part of our team and excited to see what they will accomplish next!”
